Organzing to Oppose Michael Moore's Film, ''Fahrenheit 9/11''"

Patriots:

   We at PABAAH (Patriotic Americans Boycotting Anti-American Hollywood) are beginning to organize a concerted effort to protest/boycott the Michael Moore 9/11 conspiracy film, ''Fahrenheit 9/11,'' due out in theatres next year.  We feel this film will be nothing more than an insult to the memories of the victims of 9/11 and is a political attack piece aimed at President Bush.  This is over the top and tramples on sacred ground.  

   If you are interested in being involved, we are looking to set up networks in all 50 states, to spread the word, recruit other supporters, etc.  We want to make the outcry vs. CBS look like a picnic compared to this.  Our guess is that Moore will plan on a 9/11/2004 release date, two months prior to the election and on the anniversary of 9/11. This guy is a shameless self-promoter who is attempting to defile an event that is sacred to many of us...and we should not sit quietly and take it. 

   If interested, let me know, especially which state you are in.  We need your help to spread the word to others who may want to be involved; groups, individuals, etc.

   We are currently working with other like-minded groups and are even talking with patriots of grassfire.net to centralize a petition drive thru them. Why have five boycott sites and 10 different petitions dedicated to this next year when the hoopla over all of this starts?  Let's coordinate, be prepared, and just have one big effort...

   If we learned anything from the CBS fiasco, it's that we can make a difference.  Ultimately, our goal is to have this tank at the box office and to convince theatre owners that it is not in their financial interests to book this film.  If we boycott all movie theatres during the time they carry this vile film, thus hurting their bottom line, we can have a huge impact on whether or not they carry this film.

Michael Moore did not give out Lars Larson’s phone number per se. An event associate gave Michael Moore the number to Lars Larson’s cell phone. After Michael Moore dialed that number — without having given the number to the crowd! — an answering service picked up, and Moore intended on leaving a message.

By this point, Michael Moore had put the call on the speaker so we could hear. The outgoing message of the answering service was Lars Larson, who proceeded to give his home telephone number.

So, as an attendant at this event that drew a crowd of over 9,000 at the Portland Coliseum, I know that it was in fact Lars Larson who gave out his own phone number. Moore had no way of knowing that Lars would give his home phone number on that outgoing message.

But it’s not surprising that Lars Larson would distort the story and add his dramatic touch to it (saying he fears for his safety now), because this is most likely the most press he has ever received and will ever receive. This is his brush with the big time.

When most authors do a reading they get a few dozen devotees in a chilly bookshop. Michael Moore, the American filmmaker turned best-selling polemicist (of Bowling for Columbine and Stupid White Men fame), is so huge that, when he promotes a book in Britain, he needs consecutive sittings at the London Palladium - and even they don't leave a spare seat in the house.

Moore does very little performance: just him, a shlubby guy in baseball hat standing by the microphone. He riffs on a few themes, reads a chapter of his book and then takes a lot of questions.

He does pack a few great lines. He urges Britons to be brave enough to sack Tony Blair: the left has nothing to fear from the Tories, who are deader than dinosaurs. "Come on, buck up here. You used to be brave and bold and send Australians into battle."

He notes that United States Vice-President Dick Cheney's former company, Halliburton, has won several contracts to rebuild Iraq. If American and British soldiers are dying for Halliburton, "then it's only fair that for every kid that dies, Halliburton has to slay a mid-level executive".

He hits all the buttons his audience want pressed: Tony Blair must go, George Bush is evil, Rupert Murdoch should be struck down by a thunderbolt. But the evening leaves a couple of reasons for a progressive not to feel so cheerful.

First, it may come naturally to the right wing to have guru figures such as American shock-jock Rush Limbaugh, with his legions of "dittohead" followers. But the bow-down homage to Moore that precedes each audience question, coupled with Moore's own bragging about his phenomenal book sales and website traffic, feels incongruous for a gathering of the left.

Second, what Moore serves up is political comfort food. There's no shame in that: he's trying to reach the masses turned off by politics. But the audience, lapping up a black-and-white view of the world in which lefties like them are goodies and everyone else is stupid, cannot let themselves off so easily.
