Anti-Bush French Documentary Hits Silver Screen

Le monde selon Bush or the world according to Bush

"It is the way of thinking of the neo-conservatives who run the US under Bush's leadership," Karel said

PARIS, June 24 (IslamOnline.net) - A new French documentary grilling U.S. President George W. Bush and the neo-conservatives within his administration hit the screens in Paris. The documentary is entitled "Le Monde Selon Bush" (The World According To Bush), directed by William Karel on the US administration's 1000-day rule, from September 11, 2001 up to the Iraqi invasion in March 2003.

The documentary, produced by Flach Film Corporation in collaboration with "France 2" channel, highlights a modern perspective of the United States and how a small group of neo-conservatives has controlled the US foreign policy whose goal have become the "implementation of a religious Christian project."

The documentary - hit the screen Wednesday, June 23 - starts with a farewell speech by late US President Dwight Eisenhower (1953-1961), wherein he warned the Americans of the consequences of allowing the industrial military lobby control the decision-making process in the United States.

The documentary, at its outset, shows a group of individuals in a major Washington theater house hoisting Israeli flags and chanting songs that glorify "Greater Israel."

Commenting on this scene, Karel told IslamOnline.net "I was keen to show that none of those hoisting Israeli flags was a Jew. They are all Americans who think that the establishment of the Israeli state is a fulfillment of the predictions of the Old Testament and the beginning of human salvation. Hence, supporting Israel is a sacred duty."

"It is the way of thinking of the neo-conservatives who run the US under Bush's leadership," the French director added.

On the motives behind directing such a documentary, Karel said, "This came after I had read several books on Bush since September 11 events. I realized that there are economic gains and an independent religious project behind the US administration's policies. Rather a dream to control the Islamic world."

Inspired by journalist-author Eric Laurent's two books on the Bush administration, "Le Monde" is the fifth film by Karel examining American political power.

The Tunisian-born Swiss director insists he "adores" America, but chose to make the film because "it's a true story stranger than fiction."

Testimonies

The documentary exclusively includes testimonies by several figures of the CIA, journalists and politicians, who have been ruled out due to their discomfort with the US policies particularly with regard to the Iraq invasion.

Chief among those figures are former CIA agent Robert Steel, writer Norman Mailer,, former US President Ronald Reagan's advisor Michael Liden, head of Public Integration Center Char Louis and Washington Post journalist Jim Hogland.

The director emphasizes that "the history of democracies has not witnessed a President and his team dealing with such arrogance as did Bush, as he lacks consciousness and despises international legitimacy despite an unprecedented link of personal interests."

Dictatorship

Through the testimonies obtained, the director seeks to prove that the group of Bush's advisors and ministers has managed to invest the 9/11 events to control US foreign policy decision-making and convince him that he shoulders a Christian missionary responsibility represented in the protection of Israel.

In his documentary, Karel points out that the US President has received the Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon nine times; a matter deemed unprecedented in the history of US-Israeli relationships.

In his testimony, Stanley Hoffman, a Harvard University professor, underlines that the US hawks led by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, Defense Undersecretary Paul Wolfwitz, vice President Dick Cheney and Defense Department retiree Richard Perle "have made use of September 11 events (gift of heavens) to implement their strategy that is based on re-drawing the Middle East map under the slogan of fighting terrorism."

The director shows, through official testimonies, how the US neo-conservatives have even linked their strategy to ousting the former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's regime as being responsible for September attacks and in possession of mass destruction weapons that threaten the safety and security of the US and the whole world.

The documentary also includes testimonies for (retired) David Kay, senior U.S. inspector for Iraqi weapons and Hans Blix, ex-head of the international inspectors.

The director has managed to obtain the testimony of David Ferron; the only person from the current US Administration who approved to give testimony in the documentary. David Ferron, writer of Bush's speeches, is known for devising the "Axis of Evil" term.

Karel revealed that he has attempted for over 20 times to meet Wolfwitz but the latter refused to give any statements. As for Dick Cheney, Karel underlined, nobody allowed him even to approach any of his acquaintances.

Nazi History

In his documentary, the director presents the history of Bush, the father and grandfather, to prove that the religious project of the neo-conservatives is mainly based on economic interests that are deeply rooted in Bush's family.

Based on testimonies, he says that the family of Bush keeps a secret; namely that Bush's grandfather "Prescott Bush" has made a fortune through managing pro-Nazi companies in 1942. Such a fortune has been inherited by the Bushs and invested in weaponry industry.

"Karlil missiles owned by Bush's family have been used in the latest Iraqi war in March 2003," Karel said, adding that there had been strong relations between the Bushs and the Bin Ladens and even between the Bushs and Saddam Hussein's family during his war against Iran, as they provided Saddam with chemical weapons to use against the Iranian troops.

The documentary ends with a horrible scene on deeds perpetrated by the US marines against Iraqi families under the name of the missionary task to maintain the Israeli security.

It also ends with scenes of marches organized in front of the White House that call for not voting for Bush during the forthcoming Presidential elections.

This documentary adds to the series of anti-Bush and US Administration policy documentaries; the latest of which was "Fahrenheit 9/11" for the US director Michael Moore who has obtained the Golden Palm Leave Award in the Cannes Film Festival.
