We had to chuckle when we ran across Delay Lama, and out of curiousity had to download it and give it a spin. After an easy install (download the zip and move the .dll file to your VST PLUG INS folder) we opened up Delay Lama and were instantly making monk noises within Cubase VST 5.1. You can play it just like any other VSTi, with your midi controller, or you can use your mouse to drag around and make the pitch fluctuate. Very cool! It's easy to record your mouse movements and export to an audio file. Instant fun and it's free!

Now it may not be every day that you will need monk singing in your songs, but it's a fun download and may fit in your tunes from time to time! How can you beat the price - it's free!

Delay Lama can be controlled either with a MIDI keyboard, in which case the pitchbender acts as a vowel manipulator, or with the built-in XY-controller, which allows simultaneous control over both the pitch and the vowel sound. Other controls include the portamento speed and the level of the delayed signal. All parameters are controllable via MIDI, and all incoming events are handled with sample-accuracy.

PC Internet - Schweizer Filmgesetz verbietet Filme mit dem US-Code 1

Bern - Ab Donnerstag gilt in der Schweiz ein neues Filmgesetz. Von diesem Datum an dürfen Händler keine DVDs aus den USA verkaufen und verleihen, die mit dem Nordamerika-Regionalcode 1 versehen sind. Zwar verlangt das Gesetz eine «Bereicherung des Filmangebotes», doch mit dem Verkaufs- und Verleihverbot der für den US-Markt bespielten DVDs geschieht das Gegenteil. Rund zehn Prozent der US-Filme werden ab dem 1. August in der Schweiz legal nicht mehr erhältlich sein, weil die Filmstudios sie nicht für den europäischen Handel (Regionalcode 2) freigeben. Vorrangig betroffen sind weniger aufwändige Produktionen, die auch nicht in Schweizer Kinos kommen und damit ab Donnerstag nicht mehr zugänglich sind. Massiv ist die gesetzlich verordnete Enthaltsamkeit für Filmliebhaber, die nordamerikanische Produktionen lieber in Originalsprache sehen. Sie dürfen ab sofort viele Filme nur noch in deutscher Übersetzung konsumieren, denn längst nicht alle für Europa hergestellten DVDs enthalten die englische Originaltonspur. Filme wie «Hannibal» und «Vier Hochzeiten und ein Todesfall» gibt es nur noch in Deutsch. Damit sind die Konsumenten bei den DVDs dort angelangt, wo sie bei den VHS-Kassetten vor zehn Jahren waren: Wer die Originalversion will, muss sie per Postversand teuer in Grossbritannien und den USA bestellen. Besonders für ländliche Gebiete bedeutet dies eine Einschränkung, denn die Kinos dort bringen US-Filme nur simultan übersetzt. Bei vielen für Europa produzierten DVDs mit dem Regionalcode 2 gibt es zwar eine englischen Tonspur, doch man kann die Untertitel nicht ausblenden. Bei zahlreichen Regionalcode-2-Produktionen wie «Abyss» ist die englische Tonspur nicht für Raumklangsysteme ausgelegt. Oliver Zihlmann
